What makes someone a Ravenclaw from Harry Potter? It's the job of the Sorting Hat to decide which House a student belongs in. It's a fun concept for Harry Potter book readers and viewers of the film franchise to sort themselves into one of the four Houses so we broke down the characteristics of Ravenclaws.

The knocker asks a question of anyone who knocks on it and opens the door when the question is answered correctly. If the riddle is especially difficult, large groups of students may congregate outside the door as they try to figure it out. The common room is circular, with arched windows that provide incredible views of the Hogwarts grounds, and a domed ceiling painted with stars like the night sky. It has a white marble statue of founder Rowena Ravenclaw , and behind it lies the door leading to the dormitories.
The dormitories are in turrets off the main tower, where students can hear the wind whistling around the windows. The bedsheets on the four-poster beds are made of sky blue silk. Our emblem is the eagle, which soars where others cannot climb; our house colors are blue and bronze, and our common room is found at the top of Ravenclaw Tower, behind a door with an enchanted knocker.
The arched windows set into the walls of our circular common room look down at the school grounds: the lake, the Forbidden Forest , the Quidditch pitch and the Herbology gardens. Ravenclaws learn quickly, and you'll soon enjoy the challenges the door sets. It's not unusual to find twenty people standing outside the common room door, all trying to work out the answer to the day's question together. This is a great way to meet fellow Ravenclaws from other years, and to learn from them — although it is a bit annoying if you've forgotten your Quidditch robes and need to get in and out in a hurry.
Ravenclaws' trademark qualities are their knowledge and creativity. On the flip side, Ravenclaws can also be a bit snobby, arrogant, or proud. Moaning Myrtle may not be the most pleasant character in the series, but she certainly adds some comic relief to the scenes she appears in. She doesn't think before speaking, just voices her thoughts and feelings, but this can be quite funny - at Harry's expense. She's naturally witty, as are many of the Ravenclaws, like Professor Flitwick and even Lockhart.
This can make for some entertaining scenes in the movies, as well as some interesting clashes of character. Interestingly, despite their intelligence, Ravenclaws can sometimes be oblivious - like Lockhart and Luna. In Lockhart's case, he's so self-obsessed that he doesn't even notice anything else going on around him, like the fact that Hogwarts is in danger and Harry can hear snakes in detention.
Luna, on the other hand, is simply a carefree soul who doesn't care what others think of her. She's so dedicated to expanding her knowledge of the lesser-known magics that she even notice that she doesn't fit in. This kind of hyper-focused obliviousness is definitely a Ravenclaw trait. Ravenclaws are known for their knowledge and smarts, but intuition is also a valuable asset. They may love to study, but their learning isn't just by rote or from books - they are also some of the most intuitive students at Hogwarts.
They are driven by their logic and so can simply read situations or infer things through experiences and circumstances. Luna, for instance, is very emotionally intuitive.
She knows when Harry needs company, and she senses when he needs space. While Ravenclaws seem to have endless reserves of knowledge and wit, they can use this to their advantage in a bad way. Professor Lockhart is the best - or rather, worst - example of this. He has spent his entire career using magic to take advantage of other people, and thus, take credit for their knowledge.
He may not be clever or brave in the way everyone thinks he is, but he's not dumb when it comes to business and public image. Of course, some would argue that this is more of a Slytherin trait, but it can definitely be found in Ravenclaws, too, as their intelligence can lead to pride and ambition.
One of Ravenclaws' biggest advantages is how quick they are on their feet. In a tight situation, they are likely to be the first to think their way out of it. This could be very advantageous in a Wizarding Duel , especially since Ravenclaws know so many spells.
